VINTAGE FLORAL DRESS AT NAPOLEON HOUSE

VINTAGE FLORAL DRESS AT NAPOLEON HOUSE

A few days ago I came home from my trip to New Orleans, this trip was a last minute one, since our flight to the Virgin Islands was canceled. Anything last minute is really hard for me because I am a big planner and try to research everything before I go somewhere. Therefore, when we arrived, I was feeling a bit nervous and completely at a loss of what to do first. I knew we wanted to go to the French Quarter, so we decided to wing it, get out a map, and walk there.

While we were sitting in the Cathedral in the French Quarter hungry, I found a restaurant on Yelp with great reviews. No one was really listening and I don’t think anyone knew what they were in the mood for so we just walked in the direction towards where I said the place was. The hilarious part is that they all pointed out the restaurant that I chose before any of us knew it was Napoleon House. But, I looked down when we walked through the doorway, saw Napoleon House and definitely gave an I told you so.

The food was divine at Napoleon House! We ate there twice! The first day I had an Avocado Stuffed with Shrimp Salad and the second time I had Roast Beef and Gouda Sandwich on Crusty Bread with a delicious Potato Salad on the side. Our fabulous bartender Mario made not only a delicious Italian Cream Soda (mine was peach flavored), but also a really refreshing cocktail with Pimms and lemonade. Then the General Manager, Chris, gave us a complete tour of the building. The Napoleon House happens to be one of the few landmarks in New Orleans and a favorite of tourists and locals alike. Most people aren’t allowed to go out on the balcony and it made me a bit nervous, but since he let us, I ventured out!

This is the dress I wore on our second trip back to Napoleon House. I thought that this beautiful old building was the perfect backdrop for my vintage looking floral dress! Can you believe that this dress is less than $20 from Romwe!

FINANCIAL TIP

Here a few trips for traveling on a budget that I wanted to share with you! Our trip was very last minute and we had already shelled out a few thousand dollars for our original trip. Therefore, New Orleans had to be kept low cost.

  1. DO NOT FLY SPIRIT AIR TO SAVE MONEY! Haha, ok no that’s not really my first tip, but really don’t fly with them. They canceled our flight and we had to dispute the charges with our bank, they were awful. My suggestion is not to fly with a cheaper airline to save money and to actually book your flight directly through the airline. My Mom used to work for a few airlines and my Step Dad is a freight pilot, they say fly Delta, of Jet Blue and pinch pennies elsewhere.
  2. Use rewards programs like Marriot Rewards, or Hilton Honors to book your hotel. You can get the BEST rates that way, even better than military discounts, or AAA. Many times they have what they call “off site” hotels that are still owned by them. We stayed at an Embassy Suites which had two rooms and since it was two couples we were able to split it.
  3. Look up restaurants on google and yelp to check the reviews, menu, and pricing. We ate at restaurants that were at a max of “$$”, which is mid range. Food and alcohol can eat into a huge portion of your budget, so also try to get a hotel that includes a free breakfast.
  4. Walk, walk, and walk some more. Transportation can really add up and if you rent a car you have to add in gas and parking. We used Uber some and even rode a trolley once while in New Orleans, but mostly we walked, so pack a pair of walking shoes whenever you travel.

FLORAL JUMPSUIT + 5 REASONS I LOVE SHEIN

This spring I have been obsessing over two things, rompers and floral. When I saw this jumpsuit from SheIn, I knew it was perfect for many things I had coming up. I first wore it to a family Easter lunch and then to a blogger event to get my babes opinions and it was a total hit!!

Shein floral jumpsuit

*SheIn sent me this jumpsuit for free as part of their fashion blogger program. However, all opinions are my own and I have been shopping happily from SheIn for years.

All the details combined on this SheIn jumpsuit make it the total package. It has a strappy back for the spring/summer heat, wide legs and the slits up the legs make you look hot to trot!! I wanted to keep the jumpsuit as the focus, so I paired it with simple delicate accessories in rose gold, a pair of nude strappy heels to elongate my legs, and a saddle bag to keep the boho vibes.

5 REASONS I LOVE SHEIN

  1. Styles – SheIn has a huge selection and they are always keeping up with all the trends. Many times you will find something that looks just like a designer made item at a fraction of the cost!
  2. Prices – Everything at SheIn is soooo affordable. Why spend tons of money on the trendy items, when trends change.
  3. Started in the USA – Yes most people think of SheIn as a Chinese company, which they are based in China now. However, it was actually started in Brunswick, NJ by a group of fashion loving individuals.
  4. Sizing – I am a petite girl and sometimes its hard for me to find clothing! I have really great luck with SheIn because most of their clothing is made for women my size.
  5. Customer Service – I feel like the people at SheIn are so nice and so helpful. They respond quickly to my emails, give me advice for choosing the right size, and keep me up to date every step of the way with shipping. If something is wrong, they fix it!!

Have you shopped with SheIn before? If you have what has your experience been? I love finding companies I can find super cute items that don’t break the bank, which is my financial tip for the week!

GREEN FLORAL DRESS + 7 WAYS FOR FASHION BLOGGERS TO SAVE SOME GREEN

Resort at Longboat Key Club

“Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow know what you want to truly become.”

– Steve Jobs

In today’s financial tip at the bottom I wanted to help out some fellow fashion bloggers by listing a few ways we can save money, since it can be quite an expensive hobby!!

It’s the end of the week and this is the time we tend to jump for joy! I have an exercise for you though… What if you had no weekend. What if your 9-5 was all day every day. Would you still be happy? I want you to challenge yourself to think about what you truly want to do with your life. Are you living the plan that you envisioned for yourself? If you are and you are then that’s great!! Not everyone is as lucky as you. If you aren’t where you thought you would be, then think about what steps you can take to get yourself there. You can do whatever you put your mind to.

Fashion Bloggers quotes

I’m not sure what it is about flowers, but whenever I see a floral print I feel like it speaks to me. This green floral dress is the kind of fabric that even if it wrinkles it looks like it’s meant too which means it’s great for travel!! I wore this look a while back before we experienced our brief version of winter here in Florida. I thought it made sense to show off some green fashion when discussing ways to save your green. I also got this dress on a random trip to Francesca’s and it was on the sale rack for about $12. I hate to pay full price haha. I don’t really buy into the whole need to purchase an item right when it comes out, or that sale items are so last season. I look for styles that I know are still on trend, or are classic pieces. A shift dress is a staple closet piece.

7 FINANCIAL TIPS TO HELP FASHION BLOGGERS SAVE

  1. Buy your lenses used. For fashion bloggers, your biggest money maker is your photography. People love to see beautiful, high quality photos. However, even if your camera isn’t too expensive, the lenses can really add up. I purchase all of my lenses used off KEH. This is a great site and I have never had a problem with a lens. If you would like to see a post more about what lenses I use and how to use a camera a bit better to take blog photos, then leave a comment below.
  2. If you don’t want to pay for Lightroom, or Photoshop, then use PicMonkey. I have Photoshop and Lightroom through the creative cloud, which I think is reasonably priced at $10 a month. Before I purchased those though, I was using PicMonkey. Depending on what computer I am on at the time, I actually still use it. They also have an upgraded version, which I ended up purchasing which has a lot of neat extra options and it’s much less than Photoshop at under $40 for the whole year.
  3. Purchase items when the season is over and they go on sale. As fashion bloggers we are always trying to stay ahead, or at least on trend. This doesn’t mean you can’t shop last season’s sales though. In fact there are a lot of items that stay on trend throughout the years, or are classic staples. Look for these items during the end of the season because a lot of times you can get items over 50% off. Also, make sure to shop the biggest sale of the year, the Nordstrom Annual sale. This is where you can shop ahead of the season and most items are at least 33% off.
  4. Poshmark the items you are no longer wearing. So many people from all over the U.S. are on Poshmark. This is a great way to showcase your closet and make some money off the items you haven’t worn and don’t want to just drop off to goodwill. This is also a great way for fashion bloggers to introduce more people to you and your blog.
  5. Swap items with friends to make the most of your closet. My girlfriends and I are always borrowing clothes from each other. If you and your friends are very good at taking care of clothing, shoes, and accessories, then this could be a great way to broaden your outfit options without having to spend any extra money.
  6. Before buying an item research to see if you can DIY it for a lesser price. I am all about DIY projects. I just always thoroughly research an item and how I would create it before I decide whether I should make it myself, or not. Just because you can make something yourself does not mean that is the least expensive way to go, if you can find something used, or from an inexpensive site. Currently though I am going to be creating a vanity mirror for less than $60 when the cheapest one I could find similar to what I want was well over $200. That’s a good DIY project.  Keep an eye out; I will post how to make one on the blog when I’m finished.
  7. Reach out to stores and even places you plan on traveling and ask about free products to review, or discounts for bloggers. Many brands will reach out to fashion bloggers and offer free products in trade for social shout outs, or a blog post review. This gives them free advertisement and you free products, plus hopefully advertisement via their social channels. However, I feel like a lot of people don’t take the time to reach out to the companies they want to work with. If there is something you want to showcase on your blog, then pitch the company and create a strong media kit to back yourself up. Also, don’t forget that when you travel each place you visit is an opportunity as well. Ask about blogger rates at hotels, or even at restaurants before you go. This way you can plan your trip out ahead of time and work things into your budget. Make sure you are only taking sponsored opportunities that work for you and your brand though. You want to always stay true to yourself and what makes you unique.

Happy Friday!

Nikki Arnold
