Weekdays are always a challenge for me. I am so tired in the mornings and I really don’t want to get up early. The less I have to do in the morning the better. I feel like I’m moving a million miles a minute, get up and jog, get beautified, go to work, meet up with friends, go to social engagements, or go play tennis, figure out dinner in-between, and still get to bed on time in order to get my minimum 7 hours of sleep. Then repeat!!! I am also not the best at remembering to a pill, and when I do remember its normally when I’m not exactly sitting down to eat something with a glass of water. When I found Centrum MultiGummies, I was in luck, because they contain B-vitamins to help support daily energy needs.* I also don’t need food, or water and can just chew it up wherever I am. Centrum® MultiGummies® makes it easy for me to support my health while enjoying my busy lifestyle.

One of the best life hacks for me is keeping a few items in my car, or purse that help me transition from work to an evening out. If you are a #GIRLBOSS-type female who often puts in extra hours or have an agonizingly far commute, there isn’t always enough time to go home and change into something more relaxed. When the clock strikes 5 here are my 6 steps to simply transition from office appropriate to stylish night attire.

1. Swap out those flats for heels – During the work day I like to wear flats to be comfortable walking between meetings and in case I get stuck taking the stairs. During the evening to dress it up more I switched to a pair of nude pumps to elongate my legs, plus adding high heels can instantly transform any outfit.

2. Try on a leather jacket – Another way to switch your office attire into evening attire is to switch your blazer for a chic jacket or coat. Blazers look professional and structured and are great for the office but why not switch it out for something with a little more flair. Leather jackets are perfect for nights out.

3. Put on a bold lip – I always wear a light basic makeup look for the office with either a nude lipstick, or a bit of gloss. A nice way to give your makeup a boost for the evening is to just swap out the day lipstick for a bold bright color.

4. Size down to a clutch – A big handbag will fit it all of your essentials for the day including your Centrum MultiGummies vitamins. However, I certainly don’t want to be lugging around my 5lb tote all night. A cute dressy clutch is the perfect addition to your evening look where you can slip your ID, phone and keys into for the evening.

5. Give it a pop of color – I normally keep my jewelry conservative for the office with some studs and a watch. It’s very simple to dress up a monochromatic look by adding a chunky necklace with a bright color to spice it up.

6. Let down your hair and show off that smile – Wearing your hair up always looks more conservative, elegant, and buttoned up so to speak. Letting your hair down is care free and a bit more wild, so simply letting down those locks and shaking it out a bit definitely takes a look from office to evening. And don’t be shy smile; you are off work maybe meeting up with your girlfriends like I was recently and as Marilyn Monroe said, “A smile is the best makeup any girl can wear.”

Centrum® MultiGummies® is a great-tasting, easy-to-take multivitamin supplement. Centrum ® MultiGummies ® contain three natural flavors: Berry, Cherry, and Orange.

Centrum ® MultiGummies are gluten-free and have no artificial flavors or sweeteners. My cousin follows a gluten-free diet, and with her busy lifestyle its very hard. Centrum MultiGummies really help her with feeling healthy and staying gluten free on the go.

You can purchase these vitamins for less than $12 here at Walmart!! I love picking up daily necessities at a Super Walmart because they carry pretty much anything you need and are open all hours to fit any lifestyle.

HOW TO WEAR A MINI SKIRT TO THE OFFICE

Mini skirts are back in style and I am reminded of when they were very popular growing up.  The schools I went to starting from middle school all had a dress code regarding skirts and shorts.  They couldn’t be any shorter than where our fingertips hit when our arms were at our sides.  I always thought these rules were ridiculous, who cares how much leg is showing.  However, now, at 28  years old, and an accounting professional, I can’t imagine wearing a skirt shorter than that now.

One could also say that the return of mini skirts means the return of a well prospering economy, since history seems to show us that when skirt lengths shorten the economy improves.  Be this myth or not, I would like to hope this is the case. For right now, let’s explore wearing mini skirts to the office, since, no matter where you are employed, whether it’s casual or a bit more buttoned up, I think that all ladies should observe certain guidelines about wearing this trend.

Mini skirts are certainly fine for the office if they are styled in ways that make them work appropriately.  Here are a few options to consider:

  • Cover your legs- Now that we are into fall/winter it has gotten colder, and less of us will really want to leave the house without some sort of leg coverage.  I think opaque tights are probably your best bet when wearing mini skirts to work.  Tights will not only create an appropriate level of workplace modesty, but they will make it easier to bend, move and stretch without worry.
  • Keep your shoes on the flatter side- You have to watch heels with mini skirts, particularly for work.  Heels can be fine, but chunky, stacked heels would be more appropriate than spiked stilettos, especially with bare legs.  Usually the only profession where stilettos and mini skirts work is along the street, and ain’t nobody got time for being mistaken for that.
  • Buy mini skirts that are age appropriate- What is considered a mini skirt to someone in their early 20’s is undoubtedly shorter than what a woman over 40 would consider to be mini.  With so many different designers and manufacturers out there putting mini skirts onto the selling floor, I suggest choosing a brand that caters to your age group.  The last thing I would want you to do is consider wearing a mini skirt and then buy one from a brand that is too young for you just to think that this isn’t your trend.  If you decide to order online, look at the length of the mini skirt within the description.  Anything that’s shorter than 17″ is most likely too short for the workplace at any age.

Yes, mini skirts may initially seem like they come with all these limitations, however, there are actually a lot of freedoms that you can take advantage of, mostly due to the proportion of this skirt style.  Here are a couple:

  • They look great with flat shoes- As I said earlier, flat shoes, or chunky heels, look best with mini skirts.  If you are someone who veers towards flats over heels, mini skirts work really well with them.  Sometimes a longer pencil skirt looks awkward with flats, whereas, proportionately, flats with mini skirts look great.
  • You can wear relaxed tops and tunics- Another benefit that mini skirts have over longer skirts is that relaxed sweaters and tunic tops work well with mini skirts.  Again, it’s all about proportion and what is created when you wear a longer top.  A longer, relaxed top can look awkward with longer skirts, but tend to look perfect with shorter ones.

As long as you style the skirts properly, wear the appropriate lengths, and go for something modest over something shocking, mini skirts can be perfect additions to your work wardrobe.  Of course, it definitely depends on your work environment.  Be sure to know what your office dress code is before strolling into work wearing a mini.  My guess is that your boss won’t look too fondly on, “The Fashionable Accountant said it was okay”, as an excuse.

FINANICAL TIP OF THE WEEK

Fridays are payday for most people and I know I definitely look forward to payday. There are many reasons we look forward to this day, whether our bank account is getting low, we have bills we need to pay, or something we want to buy. However, I feel like a lot of people don’t think about how much money from their paycheck they are going to put away into savings. Most of us obviously have to live on a budget, so what you are able to save will vary per person. We really need to make saving a priority though. I am not the best saver, but I am working hard on being one by making it a game. Every payday I have a designated amount that I put directly into my savings account. Then I make goals for different time frames of what I have hoped to have saved because sometimes there are obstacles that cause us to have to break into our nest egg and we need to be realistic. Other times we may have extra money leftover at the end of the month that we can add into our savings. A lot of checking accounts have the option where you can set up an automated savings plan where every paycheck, or every month and certain amount goes directly into your savings. This makes it easier to force yourself to put something away for a rainy day. Beware, don’t become a hoarder because you got so addicted to saving. You should splurge on yourself every so often because you do deserve it for all your hard work.  😉

Happy Friday!

**REBRANDED** FASHION & FINANCE FRIDAY

Sometimes I over think fashion, just like I over think other aspects of my life. I feel as women we need to make bold choices sometimes, which is why it’s called a fashion “statement”. There is nothing wrong with being sexy, bold, confident, and beautiful. Just because you are going to work at an office for that 9-5 schedule where you have to look professional, doesn’t mean you have to always wear a boring suit, or look completely buttoned up. You can be stylish and trendy while still being office appropriate. So, pull out those OTK boots that you save for the weekend, or a night out with your girlfriends, because you are going to wear them to work.

Now I will say that I think wearing over the knee boots to work looks more appropriate when they are flat. You don’t want to look too sexy at the office, so I think a flat, low heel, or chunky heel works best and you want to either wear them with a long skirt that covers some of the boot, or with a skirt/dress that hits just a few inches above the boots. If you really want to make sure that you are covered, then try wearing a pair of coordinating tights to cover the bit of showing leg.

Love this purse by Bebe, which I think is a great dupe for the super expensive Chanel Boy bag, but this one is under $100. The necklace and earrings that I’m wearing are both by Kendra Scott, but I saved money because I didn’t purchase them. They came in my monthly Rocksbox subscription where for only $19 a month I get to rent designer jewelry and exchange the items as often as I want. Use my code FLAMINGOS_PINEAPPLES to get your first month free!

Ok, let me give you a little explanation, of what has changed on the blog and what will be happening in the future. I took a webinar the other week by two amazing bloggers: Julie Solomon and Angela Lanter. In this webinar one of the things they discussed was branding and staying true to yourself and what you want showcase to your readers. I am an accountant by trade,  and as much as I love fashion and styling myself and others, I am simply a financial planner and OCD type personality haha. Therefore, it made sense for me to combine the two and help other women not only with styling tips, but realistic bits on finance in our every day lives. I want to give you outfits that you will look trendy and professional in when you go to the office, because that’s how I know I want to look. I want to help you save your money and make smart choices because I’ve learned from mistakes and heck I’m still learning, so I am always willing to share advice and take it from others. I hope that now I have rebranded my blog to “The Fashionable Accountant” that I can express how women can always be both intelligent and beautiful.

FINANCIAL TIP OF THE WEEK

For those of you who work the 9-5, irregular hours, or work from home, this time of year can be stressful due to open enrollment. There are so many options when it comes to healthcare and making the right decision for yourself, or your family takes a lot of thought. There is one aspect of open enrollment that I suggest everyone take advantage of and that is the FSA (Financial Savings Account). An FSA can be used for two things dependent care expenses and medical expenses. All money that you allocate to this account for the year is taken out of your paycheck prior to being taxed, so you are reducing the amount of earnings that you will have to pay taxes on at the end of the year. I think this is the best way to save money to use for dental and medical co-payments, certain medical items from the drug store including prescriptions, and my favorite item to use FSA money for…contacts & glasses. So, save your money on that vision care because most of the time it’s not worth what you are paying. I estimate what I would be spending on glasses and contacts and allocate that for the year into my FSA. There are many eyeglass stores that always have great deals on exams, contacts, and glasses that it’s much more affordable than having to stay in network with vision insurance. So, think long and hard about what your medical expenses will be over the year when you are finalizing your healthcare plans because if you are planning on having any dental work done, doctor co-payments, or wear glasses/contacts like me, then I would plan on putting money into your FSA in order to reduce your tax burden come the end of the following year!

Happy Friday!
